Sarah Land is a performing violinist, teacher, and yoga therapist in the Columbia, SC area. Since she was young, she has been interested in music as a healing art, which led her to begin studying the violin at age 11. Since then, Sarah has studied a wide range of musical styles throughout her ongoing education in hopes of connecting with audiences and students in as many ways possible.
As an active orchestral violinist, Sarah has performed extensively throughout the Southeastern United States. She is section violinist with the Greenville Symphony, Savannah Philharmonic, South Carolina Philharmonic and frequently performs with ensembles in Charleston SC , Asheville NC, and Augusta GA.
Sarah’s most loved medium of music-making is chamber music. She is violinist of the arsNOVA piano trio which won first prize in the 2013 South Carolina MTNA chamber music competition, performing a broad spectrum of repertoire from Beethoven to Muczynski. Sarah is grateful to have been featured in the Southern Exposure New Music Series performing Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians. She is also violinist of the Land Knott Duo where she regularly appears in recital with her cellist partner-in-crime Ryan Knott.
Most of Sarah’s summers have been spent immersed in music. She has participated in Piccolo Spoleto USA (Charleston SC) where she served as Principal 2nd Violin in 2011, the Eastern Music Festival (Greensboro NC) where she served as concertmistress in 2009 and 2011, and the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival (Burlington VT) performing beloved works including Prokofiev’s String Quartet No. 2, Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 “Death and the Maiden," and Beethoven’s String Quartet op. 131.
As an educator, Sarah offers a unique teaching style that blends violin technique, body awareness, performance psychology, and artistry. Sarah recently completed yoga training and is a Registered Yoga Teacher at the and is currently pursuing C-IAYT Yoga Therapist certification. Through this training, Sarah is equipped with knowledge of human anatomy to help prevent her students from injury as well as techniques to calm and focus the mind. Sarah believes that studying music goes far beyond physical practice and hopes her students will find meaningful expression in their own music.
Sarah completed her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance at the University of South Carolina, graduating Summa cum Laude, and currently plays a violin made in 1922 by Armando Piccagliani. When she’s not making music, you can find Sarah practicing yoga, cooking vegan food, and spending time with her 5 furbabies.
